{Certified Iridologist Derek Weaver and Herbalist Alexandra Fox}
You may have never heard of iridology before however you may also be surprised to know that it is a powerful tool to understand the subtle inner workings of your whole body. Have you ever wondered what your liver is thinking? Iridology can do that and much more! Derek Weaver, the owner of Heal Your Disease, is a certified Iridologist and Health Consultant. He is a wealth of information and is focused on plant based gut health and helping people see the "big picture". This is something that is so vitally important in the world today as our food becomes more and more depleted of essential nutrients and chemicals are in almost everything. It can be daunting to figure out the true cause of health issues from minor to life threatening however Derek has helped people over those hurdles and truly changed lives.
In 2008 Derek became interested in this type of work because he was noticing more and more how things weren't exactly as they seem concerning food production, health, and how people perceive what is good and not good. He learned all of this through his own ventures into the woods, learning survivalism and how to live in a self-sustaining way. He believes this is more important than anything to learn to focus on building that knowledge and implementing it in ways that don't break the budget. Derek started working at a health food store and quickly became a sales representative for herbal products as well as teaching others what he had learned. This fueled his passion to begin his business. He now operates Heal Your Disease out of his office in north Indianapolis offering health consultations as well as iris analysis (Iridology).
I share Derek's simple philosophy when it comes to our health and wellbeing...anything is possible!

Honey Springs Wellness is a locally owned health food store owned by herbalist Alexandra Fox. Although the store is new, Alexandra is not new to herbs and in fact has been studying and working with them since 2012. Having a personal struggle with endometriosis, Alexandra found little help from traditional medical doctors who weren't open to the idea of using herbs as treatment. She began reading books on healing naturally with herbs and not long after found herself healed from the crippling pain of endometriosis and is symptom free using that knowledge. It was such a profound discovery that she wanted to share that knowledge with others and began working at a well-known health food store selling herbal remedies and more.
Alexandra has such a passion that she began Honey Springs Wellness and has set up shop in the same location as Derek Weaver. She has said that the small picture for her business is finding products that she's passionate about, uses herself, and working with clients to give the the very best. The big picture is to eventually make her own herbal products and sell her own line, giving her an even better understanding of the products and what they can do for people.
Derek and Alexandra work in tandem and are focused on helping others by doing the research for you through their years of personal experience, knowledge and care for the health of every body. You can find Honey Springs Wellness at www.facebook.com/honeyspringswellness.
October's Featured Business was...
Bowater's Farm in Centerville.
{Organic Non-GMO Produce and Eggs, Pastured Pork, Organic Tea Blends, and more.}
Amy Powell Bane started Bowater's Farm in 2015 on a beautiful plot of land in Centerville, IN. It has 8 acres of land which houses about a hundred free range chickens, pigs, goats, a highland bull, and several great pyrenees dogs to watch over the animals. Her farmhouse was actually a stagecoach stop along US 40 and looks out over a large pond where she catches stunning views of the ever changing Indiana sky.
Before owning her farm Amy was a professional photographer, attending art school in Chicago after high school. In fact, Amy and I went to high school together and by chance even attended the same college in Chicago although we had no idea each other were there. What a small world!
I got in touch with Amy last year because I was longing to be connected with people who I felt were doing extraordinary work by caring for the land, creating organic non-gmo products, and have a mission to build healthy compassionate communities. This is truly Amy's vision. Her interest is in permaculture and sustainable living and she plans to grow her business using these practices. In the future she has her imagination set on the possibility of creating a co-op or farm store near or on her farm.
I spoke with Amy recently and asked her why she left photography (she's an amazing photographer - all the above photos are hers and her instagram is packed with many more) and started farming, she told me it just felt right for many reasons. Eating organic food and growing it were not new to her but her desire began to grow toward making healthy foods more accessible to others. She also enjoys animals and having the freedom of self-employment meant she could truly care for them and put all of her energy into creating a self-sustaining farm. When Amy talks about her life I see her glow. Of course it's a lot of hard work and she admits that however I'm always inspired by her enthusiasm and passion and know that to her, it's worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears.
You will find her through the end of October at: Binford Farmers Market (every Saturday 9-noon) Farmer and the Flea (every Saturday from 1:30-4pm)
You will find her from November through April at: Indy Winter Farmers Market (every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 9-12:30)
Check her website for details on when she'll be joining Market Wagon, the online farmers market where you'll never have to miss a chance to get your favorite farm fresh products.
Amy's teas are sold at select local stores and she's always looking for more locations to sell them! They are absolutely delicious and she'd love for you to reach out to her for more information.
